Christmas Treats

Oh my.....I can't believe Christmas is almost here!  Every year it feels like time somehow accelerates once the school year starts, and before you know it......the holidays are here!  So, if you're still looking for something cute to put together for the holidays.....here's some ideas:

How about these fun Oreo Snowman Pops?

Or these cute Oreo Penguin Pops?

Feel like doing cakepops instead of Oreo pops?  How about a little Rudolph?

But what about if you're not in the mood to make pops?  Well, how about some Christmas tree cupcakes instead?

Whatever you end up making, just remember to have fun and relax!  It's just sugar :)

Thanksgiving Turkeys

It's almost Thanksgiving!  Are you ready?  Me, well......no.  But at least I don't make the whole dinner......I'm just responsible for dessert.  So every year I usually bring something that's yummy for adults.....and something fun for the kiddos.  Since I'm a little behind this year, I thought I'd show some of the turkeys I've done over the last few years.....in case you're looking for some cute inspiration :)

First off are some Oreo and candy turkeys that I had seen over at Our Best Bites.  We used these as placecards on our kids table that year.

Next up are turkey cakepops.  I haven't made many cakepops lately....I've been making Oreo pops more often since they tend to be quicker to make.  But people sure do love cakepops!  I usually make red velvet cakepops......but with these turkeys I decided that it might be creepy if you bit into a turkey and it was red inside.  I ended up doing a yellow cake instead.  For the step-by-step instructions on how to make these, check out Bakerella.

Lastly we've got a combination of the first two.....Oreo turkey pops.  I used a combination of mini and regular Oreos for these, and still found them to be quicker to make than the cakepops.

So that's it!  Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!

Christmas Tree Cakepops

Here's another cakepop from Christmas last year.  Little red velvet Christmas trees.  So cute!  I really liked these.....although they do take a little work.  Of course I first saw these on Bakerella (the goddess of cakepops), and although mine look a little chunkier than her trees, I don't think they're half bad.

For instructions, as well as a list of needed supplies, check out Bakerella.....and Enjoy!

Rudolph Cakepops

These are some adorable reindeer cakepops that I made last year for my son's preschool class.  As far as cakepops go, these didn't take too long, and aren't too tricky.  You definitely want to get the pretzels into the cakepop before the chocolate starts hardening, or else you're going to get cracks in it.  I found some star shaped pretzels at World Market, and I used the ones that were a little mis-shapen for the antlers.  For a nose I went with red hots, although you could also use red or brown M&Ms.

Check out Bakerella for instructions on these cakepops, as well as other Christmas cakepops.

Have fun.....and Enjoy!

Turkey Cakepops

Aren't these little turkeys cute?  I made these for last year's Thanksgiving, along with the Oreo Turkeys I posted earlier this week.

With so many kiddos at our Thanksgiving celebration (at last count there are 18 kiddos in our family celebration), I'm always trying to think of things that the kiddos will have fun eating.  I may have been overthinking this a little bit, but I ended up using a white cake mix with vanilla frosting for these cakepops, instead of my usual red velvet and cream cheese frosting.  I just wasn't sure the reaction I'd get if you bit into a turkey cakepop and it was red inside.....that seemed like it might be a little gross?

I sure do love the look of these guys....but I gotta say.....doing a project like this is time consuming!!  You definitely need to give yourself some time to put this together.....baking the cake, cooling the cake, crumbling the cake, mixing with frosting, rolling into balls, chilling the cakeballs, dipping into chocolate, then decorating and bagging.

To pack them up to take somewhere, I always use my trusty basket.  I put a couple of styrofoam blocks on the bottom, cover it with basket filler (that shredded paper stuff), and just start poking the turkeys in there.  Cakepops are definitely always a hit when you bring them somewhere, not to mention they are pretty cute decorations.

Check out Bakerella for all your cakepop tutorials......be creative....and Enjoy!!

Easter Chick-a-dees

I had been waiting for Easter to try out the cute little Easter chicks from Bakerella. If you haven't check out her blog yet, you have to get over there and immediately get insanely jealous at the things she can make!! You can also find her book, Cake Pops, just about everywhere these days!!

I was initially going to make these little guys in yellow....but for some reason I had a major gloppy disaster on my hands once I started trying to melt my yellow candy melts. I think that maybe the temperature got a little too high for them (I was melting in the microwave), and instead of becoming beautifully glossy and melty, instead they turned into bumpy, yucky looking mess. And these were Merckens candy melts, not Wiltons, and I have never had any trouble with them before. I suppose I should have documented the mess....but being new to this blog thing, it didn't really occur to me until after I had cleaned it up!

Since that was my last bag of yellow, I decided to try some neon pink birds......a shade that you always see in nature, right?? I also tried to do some orange chicks, but once I melted the chocolate, realized they were more peachy or flesh-toned. So, they were my naked birdies.....kind of weird, but cute enough to display.

One last thing.....I decided to use white cake with vanilla frosting inside these. I normally use red velvet and cream cheese frosting when I make cake balls or cake pops, but I thought it might be a little creepy biting into a bird and having it be red. Thinking too much? You decide....

For a tutorial on these cute little guys, as well as a ton of other ideas, check out Bakerella's blog!
